In October 2013 Stephen Clough joined NECTER/RCE North East as director. Stephen is a senior adviser to the Further and Higher Education sectors and is based at Durham University. Having successfully completed the Degree of Doctor of Education at Durham in 2010, Stephen has had the title of Honorary Fellow in the School of Education conferred upon him in acknowledgement of the contributions that he has made in his area of expertise.
The title of Stephen’s Doctor of Education thesis is “A Study of UK Education Policy in the Adoption and Implementation of Third Stream Activities by Higher Education Institutions”. In addition to Stephen’s NECTER activities, his time is divided between his role as a researcher at Durham University and undertaking consultancy and interim management assignments in Further & Higher Education organisations.
Stephen is also is a participating member of staff at Durham University with the Durham Global Security Institute (DGSi). Research activities that Stephen has been involved with at Durham University include Entrepreneurial College Leadership, LEGO S-Play, NEET Network UK (a £1.88m proposal) and, most recently, a €300K EU funded project working with universities and other educational organisations in Hungary, Estonia, Portugal and Bulgaria (School Leadership Toolkit for Accelerating Achievement). Stephen is committed to lifelong learning and has held senior posts in both the further and higher education sectors. In 2014 Stephen was invited to become a Fellow of the Royal Society of the Encouragement of the Arts, Manufactured and Commerce (FRSA).
