Description of project

As a Language College and Ecoschool, we will create international wildlife and artwork ‘zones’ around the school grounds. Zones will include: Brazilian rainforest, Mediterranean garden, Chinese zone, Japanese Zen garden, Spanish Sierra, French jardin, Durham Moorland. These zones will:

  • reflect the natural habitat, artistic culture and languages of our international partner schools.

  • involve students in planning and creating each zone, creating artwork in partnership with local artist, creating habitats, growing and caring for plants.

  • involve students in researching the geography, climate, flora / fauna and adaptations of ‘zones’ to reports which will be shared within school and with international partner schools.

  • provide a stimulus for students within school, for local partner primaries and in exchange with international partner schools, for artistic work, scientific investigation, creative writing ( in English and international partner languages) and musical composition.

  • Create ‘outdoor classrooms’ that enhance learning across the curriculum.

  • Develop an appreciation for and understanding of the natural environments and cultures in our global community.
